Elder Abuse

Elder AbuseIt's sad to say but as we begin the 21st Century, the U.S. is the richest country in the world and we do not have a priority of protecting our Senior Citizens. Elder financial abuse is a fast growing crime. The Seniors who are the victims cannot financially recover when a crook takes all their retirement savings or takes the equity out of their home of 20 to 30 years. This is happening every day.

Listed below are some of the financial and physical crimes committed against the elderly. If you want to be a con artist and rip off the elderly there are seminars on the art of taking an elderly persons money. I was doing an investigative report for CBS-2 News and we sent a young man undercover to one of the seminars. It cost $650 at the door, and the seminar lasted about one and a half hours. They taught you how to look up the real estate files at the county records office and find the elderly who own their homes and have large equity in the homes. They teach you how to go to banks on Senior Days and target victims. They claim that in about two to three months you should be able to steal all the elder's retirement funds, and get all the equity out of their homes. They teach you how bank officials will actually make it easy for you.

After exposing this ring of crooks, I interviewed one of the young men from the Middle East, asking if he would do this same crime against an elderly person in his own country. He said no way. I asked, "why not?". He said because in his country, they enforce the laws that protect Seniors, but here (in the USA) they do not enforce the law. It's easy to do it here. What he says is shamefully true.
